City of Loveland Utilities has proudly served Loveland residents since 1925. In 1973, the city partnered with neighboring communities to  establish Platte River Power Authority, which provides the electric generation and transmission that supplies Loveland with safe, reliable and affordable energy. Loveland is one of about 2,000 public power utilities across the nation that serve more than 55 million  Americans with one shared purpose: powering strong communities.

Public power is community-owned, which means the people of Loveland have a direct voice in shaping their energy future. That local  ownership guides every decision we make. City of Loveland Utilities focuses on what matters most to residents: reliable,  affordable, sustainable and customer-focused service that reflects local needs instead of outside interests. Public power customers benefit from lower costs and strong accountability. In 2024, homes served by public power paid 14% less for  electricity compared to private utilities. These savings stay right here in Loveland because City of Loveland Utilities operates on a not-for-profit model and reinvests directly back into the community-owned electric system. We take pride in being thoughtful stewards of the resources our neighbors rely on.

Reliability is at the heart of building a strong community. Public power customers experience fewer outages because the staff who design, operate and maintain the system live in the same community they serve. In 2024, public power customers had 1.5 fewer hours without  electricity during normal conditions and nearly 6 fewer hours during major events than customers of other utility types. When service is  interrupted, the crews—neighbors who know the system well—respond quickly and safely. Keeping the lights on in Loveland is a responsibility we approach with humility and dedication.

City of Loveland Utilities is guided by the Loveland Utilities Commission, which is composed of Loveland residents and meets monthly to  ensure transparent, local decision making.
