Here’s a timeline of a typical Lawn Replacement Program project: 

1. Measure your space and determine sun exposure (space must be 200 sq. ft or more). 

2. Take photos of the area. 

3. Submit an online application. 

4. Remove lawn through Resource Central with a 50% discount on labor up to the total discount available (or do it yourself!). 

5. Pick up and plant your low-water Garden In A Box kit or complete landscaping yourself following your project plan. 

6. Convert or adjust your irrigation system. 

7. Share your project on WaterwiseYards.org to inspire others.

To qualify for the Lawn Replacement program you must: 

• Be a City of Loveland Utilities residential water customer (service area map) with an account in good standing (no late payments).  
  
  
• Be the legal property owner for your project area. 
  
  
• Be removing a lawn that’s been watered and maintained on a regular basis (dry, dead lawns can be complicated to remove and do not offer our community meaningful water savings and therefore don’t qualify for the program). 
  
  
• Be removing at least 200 sq. ft of healthy, maintained lawn.
  
  
• Convert at least 50% of your lawn space to low-water plant material at full maturity. 

Two discount types are available through the Lawn Replacement program, and depending on the size of a customer’s project, they can receive one or both types: 

1. If a customer chooses to hire Resource Central’s Lawn Removal Service, they’ll get a 50%+ discount on labor up to the benefit amount.  This means the out-of-pocket cost for customers often amounts to around $1 per sq. ft. of lawn removed. Please visit the Resource Central website to determine exact savings.  
2. Customers may also choose to use their discount toward Garden In A box kit(s).  This discount is great for customers who prefer to remove lawn themselves and/or focus on getting low-water gardens.    

Applications are simple and should only take about 10 minutes if you’ve prepared the following: 

• Determine the square footage of the intended project area using as accurate measuring methods as possible.  
  
  
• Take “before” photos of the intended project area -ideally with the boundaries outlined (garden hoses are a great resource here) and without snow (so that Resource Central can determine the condition of the existing turf).   
  
  
• If you plan to remove turf yourself, have a description ready of your plan/process. 
  
  
• If you plan to cover the space with landscaping of your own design, prepare to submit a list of low-water plants, shrubs or trees you will use.  (Rock or stone are allowed, but projects looking to replace lawn with exclusively rock or stone will not be approved.) 
  
  
• Please also have your utility account number readily available.  This can be found on the upper-right-hand side of your monthly bill in the “Account Summary” section.  It will consist of 7 digits followed by 6 digits (including all 0’s). i.e. 0123456-012345.
